Ethan Wright is a thirteen year old boy who lives in a fairly peaceful village under the stewardship of an older man named Odin. A few years before the story began his brother Isaac went missing, and Ethan has strange reoccurring dreams about him. Ethan and Isaac's father is a mapmaker who, due to the nature of his work, is often gone from the village for long periods of time. Ethan is usually a cheerful boy who spends his days with his best friend, Auren Faryndon. Still, he can't help but feel abandoned and alone.Due to a bit of disobedience, Ethan and Auren are punished by having to aid a strange alchemist, Wegnel. Wegnel makes the boys help him with a number of (often dangerous) tasks, the least of which is a crazy device that sends Ethan into what appears to be an alternate world. Eventually Ethan and Auren embark on a world-hopping journey. This is just the tip of the iceberg; The Curse of Silence has a good amount of twists and turns.
The story has a very deliberate pace that sets up the world and characters. This story would likely be excellent for middle school readers. It's filled with adventure and odd characters and creatures. Some of the side characters could have used some fleshing out, such as the big baddie for this book, whose motives are still a bit unknown. Still, the main characters are pretty fleshed out and likeable. I thought the pacing was nice, the beginning was a bit slower to ease the reader into the world and Ethan's daily life, and after the first few chapters things picked up. There were few dull moments. I'm just hoping the next installments in the series will continue to develop the characters and answer some unresolved questions about the world they live in.
I love the cover art. It's easy to forget about things like covers when you're reading ebooks, but I do think this cover prepares you for an action-packed fantasy adventure.

Ethan Wright and the Curse of Silence Volume 1 Kimbro West 9780988787018 Books Reviews
Book Name Ethan Wright and the Curse of Silence
By Kimbro West
I have a fair share in reading books, articles and blogs by various authors. One distinct name or rather distinct author is Kimbro west. The thing that separates Kimbro from other emerging authors is his down to earth and true description about himself as well as his work. I recently had a chance to indulge myself into the world of Ethan Wright and his friends. Now, I know that one should not judge a book by its cover but, one of the first thing that you will agree with me is Cover of "Ethan Wright The curse of Silence" is beautiful and awe-inspiring.
Although the terms Ouroboros and Curse of Silence etc... In prologue itself were bit confusing but soon they formed the base line of whole story. This is a story of a young boy named Ethan and his adventure where he made friends, fought enemies and tried to break age old curse of silence. Without giving away much, I can say that you will see Alchemy, Ouroboros which transports you to other world and other magical things (like stonewolf ) I don’t want to give away anything more substantial but still I’ll say that this book is about friendship and pushing boundaries... The story has enough substance to hook you up to keep turning pages. Ending of the book is little soft and kinda incomplete so, I am guessing author will be publishing second book soon (hopefully).
When I bought this book, I wasn’t expecting anything because I was too satisfied with the cover alone but story indeed is good and totally pays off. The language used is simple to understand and makes you believe that YA could be written without including profanity. But for some of you readers it could be too simple.
So on concluding notes, I would like to say that I enjoyed this book and so I am going to give this one 4 of 5 points
Ethan Wright and the Curse of Silence is an exciting, interesting book. Though I think it's geared more for the YA readers, it felt a little too juvenile (writing more simplistic and the characters are all preteen ages). I would classify it as JF instead, though that's not saying some young adults wouldn't enjoy it as well. I think it would appeal most strongly to the 8-10/13 age range.
The story follows Ethan Wright and his best friend, Auren Faryndon. Ethan lives with his caretaker, Odin and cat, Loki. Ethan's twin brother, Issac, has been missing for 3 years, and he keeps having nightmares about him. When Ethan and Auren overhear Odin speaking with a stranger about an alchemist that lives on the edge of town, they decide to investigate one night and then meet Wegnel. He seems crazy and the boys decide to leave him alone. However, Odin decides to punish Ethan for sneaking out and sends him back to Wegnel to assist him in "gathering herbs". Auren gets in trouble from his father for fighting in the annual youth sword competition after being told that he couldn't. As punishment, he too is sent to help Wegnel. The boys go out with the crazy alchemist and track down a legendary beast to collect its poisonous quills. But things turn horribly bad when a giant stonewolf (a werewolf with stone skin) attacks them. After getting back to Wegnel's, the alchemist asks Ethan to deliver the herbs and quills they gathered to him (Wegnel). Ethan decides to humor the crazy old man, but when he is strapped to a chair and has blinding pepper thrown into his eyes, he wakes up in a new place. He finds himself in a new world, where MacArthur, (who is also Wegnel) lives. He is told about the oroborus, a strange creature that is always devouring its tail and is able to transport people between the various worlds that exist.
Ethan returns home and from then on starts to learn about things, like the Curse of Silence that has restricted anyone from talking about the oroborus or suffer death. Ethan and Auren are tasked with researching the stonewolf and are sent back through the oroborus. They are also joined by Availia, a new friend that wants to join the guard to follow in her sister's footsteps. Upon arriving in the new world, Tirguard, they also meet the boy Stanley. In order to gain access to the records where they can research the creature, they have to be members of the guard. Ethan and his friends though, end up in the school of alchemy where they start to learn the ways of alchemy and become alchemists themselves. Ethan though is set on finding his brother. But the Mitans that inhabit the world are considered deadly and to leave Tirguard is thought of as certain death. Ethan also keeps having strange dreams and visions. There's far more to learn than just finding his brother, such as why was the Curse created to protect him and his brother? And why did the Oroborus show special interest in him? And will the four new friends be able to prevent an all out war or ever learn how to master alchemy?
The story is pretty well paced and doesn't jump all over the place or go too fast. It did feel like there could have been more background information and character buildup (especially for Stanley and Availia). But it does keep you reading and is definitely interesting. The plot is intriguing and I would like to see where the author decides to take the series. The end felt a little anti-climatic to me, mostly because the main villain wasn't really talked about and you don't really have much information on who he is or why he's so interested in Ethan and his brother. I'm assuming a lot of questions will be answered in the following book(s), but I feel like there definitely could have been some more background explained without giving everything away.
Overall it was still enjoyable, and a younger reader would probably really enjoy it. I will probably check out the next book when it comes out mostly because there are so many questions left unanswered.
